This owl has spread its wings

Before I link to this site I just want to say that I don't really think that setting up multiple forums on the same subject is such a great idea. However, I much prefer the PHP style forums to the Notes style and, at least, it's worth a look - http://notes.bluedojo.com/.

Jake H-OWL-ettWith all their extra features they just make a better place to "hang out". Plus the geek in me likes that you can have your own "avatar". On this forum I chose this owl. Not because I think I am particularly wise but for the much more obvious reason.

Did you know that the most common species of owl is not the Barn Owl but the Teat Owl?

Another similar style forum (and one I've mentioned before) is the JavaScript City. With 43,000 posts in the "How do I?" section you should find something of interest...

  1. Well, this is new! Re the PHP forums, they're pretty cool (the Notes one above has perhaps the best look and feel of any I've used) but I really hate the fact that they're not threaded and anyway, whats wrong with Usenet?

You're right, they are new. In fact you have the honour of being the first to use it ;o)

How apt that it happens to be in reply to a post about forums.

The system is only a prototype and will change when I get your guy's feedback..

I like it Jake! - There have been many times when I felt like emailing you about various things in your blog and then thought "hey, I don't want to bog Jake down with my thoughts" - Now I can have my say about your say and its less intrusive on your busy life.

  2. As a Mac-user at home (let's not start all that platform rubbish BTW), I've been using http://www.macfora.com for a while -- that's a nice PHP based forum too. Very nifty.

  3. I'd be curious to know how difficult it would be to develop something like the PHP Forum in Notes/Domino. As a Sys Admin, I don't really know if one can pull this off... is this possible? Or would Notes need to be more "transactional" to pull the data necessary on the fly?

I also like the Support Forums @ SUN.com:
