Photos From Yorkshire Weekend

Just got back from a great weekend away. Wish I could share all the stories with you but that would take too long. Instead, here are some photos. Does it look like I'm celebrating having been for an interview and getting a job? No such luck. It's me at York Races on Friday with nothing much to celebrate having lost money on every race. Probably my first and last visit to "the horses".

Bunnyboy

Getting to York far too early on Friday meant I had chance to go for my very open open-top bus tour of the city. I got off after about ten minutes once I realised the place is tiny and you can walk round it in about half an hour. The pictures should be interesting to anybody who's never been and include the Minster and the Shambles. You can see why I called it Old York the other day. The city walls date back to the Roman Empire.

Photos from York..

After York we drove up to Justin's parent's in Goathland (or Aidensfield to anybody who watches Heartbeat) where they run the Mallyan Spout hotel. Alsorts happened over the next two day and there's no need to say we spent most of the time drinking. Quite a lot of which was in my favourite pub in the world, the "Beckhole". The pub is hundreds of years old and you kind of get that feeling when you're in there. Almost nothing at all has changed over the years.

Photos from Goathland..

Something that happened that you might be interested in involved RAF Fylingdales, which is about a mile from the hotel. Fylingdales is used by the Americans as part of their Star Wars early warning system and is guarded with some serious security. Anyway, on Sunday morning Alex's dad woke to find his car wouldn't start. As soon as the man from the AA arrived he was in no doubt what the problem was. Apparently they are called out to the area all the time as Fylingdales emits a signal every now and then that activates car immobilisers. And there was me worrying about radiation from Wireless networks. Surprised there aren't any two headed sheep in Goathland.

Went to Robin Hood's bay a few month's back and numerous times as a kid.

The railway line runs past the bottom of the garden of Justin's home. You can hear the steam engine from miles away. We went down to the bridge this weekend and waved at the "tourists" ;o)

Black Velvet is good stuff thought Poor Man's Black Velvet (Guiness & Cider) is woeful - not to be recommended.

Why not recover some of your cash by investing a few quid on Royal Ascot. I think 40/1 on Jamie Spencer to be top jockey has got to be worth a quid. He rides the second string for some very powerful stables!

Might just do that Paul. Not sure about the poor man's drink though. Sounds awful.

What I should have done is bet on the same horses as my mate Justin who actually knows what he is doing and often wins big. Instead I went for the "you might as well pick a name you like" approach. D'oh!

I thought the Star Wars project hadn't been developed, wasn't it an early warning system to detect and destroy approaching meteorites and comets?
