Holidays in Greece

You guys are always surprising me. It's good to see such enthusiasm for PHP amongst you all. Now I don't have to feel guilty when I talk about it. Maybe it's the fact that now, more than ever, most people don't feel 100% secure in having Domino as their only skill. We all need to add more strings to our proverbial bows.

Tomorrow morning I fly to the Greek island of Skiathos for a week. When I get back I will share some PHP know-how with you all. While I'm away you might want to get yourself somewhere to play with it. I won't be talking about how to set it up. There are already a load of brilliant sites out there that cover this topic. Just do a Google for PHP and go from there. What I will be doing is trying to introduce PHP from a Domino developer's perspective. How to create views and forms and add access control etc etc.

I leave you with a few contrasting photos from my recent scanning binge. I think they show why I am on a get-in-shape initiative. They are both taken on Greek islands. The first is when I was 20 and is on Zakynthos. This is the kind of shape I'd like to be in again:

Image of thin me when I was 20

The second is when I was 25 and is on Cyprus. As you can see I've gained a few pounds. Glad to say I'm no longer that big but I've got some way to go.

See you all in a week....

  2. Hi Jake,

Just to let you know I have a degree in exercise science and 5 years experience as a personal trainer. If you like, I could be your virtual trainer providing info on cardio, weights, supplements or whatever!

Shawna. Thanks a million for the offer. I will take you up on it. I am in serious need of some advice. I've been reading lots of conflicting advice. Things like "negative energy balances". My approach has always been common sense but I would hate to get it all wrong. At the moment I am trying to eat well and am doing about 20 miles on the mountain bike, every other day.

Will be in touch when I get back from sunning myself...

Hi Jake, like the approach you want to follow for PHP based on the Domino minds...I did a similar online course which was Java for Domino Developers.

Maybe another insight when you are finished when the PHP one.

Have a nice week in Greece and take care with that scooters.

Jake, how exactly is it that you seemingly manage to take a two-week vacation every three weeks? I know you're an independent and all, but geez...

It should be obvious at this point that I'm just a jealous overworked new yorker.

    Enjoy your break!

  3. Jake,

the second photo shows that you obviously lead the good life! ;-)

Hope you can share some of your weight lossing woes with us all. Speaking solely for myslef, I could need some exercise myself. Perhaps Shawna is willing to give us deskworkers some good advise in order to loose some weight.

HUK, about the vaca in Europe. Come to Holland and go to work for the government. You can get 50 days off. How's that for some vaca.......

It's like work is just a way of passing time before you can go on holiday. Again. And again. And again......

Have fun in Greece and don't drink too much ouzo!

Hope you had a good time in Skiathos. Went there last year and had a great relaxing holiday at Koukounaries. The only thing that worried me was the length of the runway... barely long enough to stop on!

  4. I'd be interested to know how I can host php pages on a Domino web server.

I've been looking into this for quite some time and can't get it to work in an elegant manner.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated :-)

In the meantime enjoy the sun and babes in Greece :-D

  5. Hi, mentioned my work webaddress here, but working on a blog to come online soon.

It's great to spend Holidays in Greece, but living there is even better.

Have fun blogging and see you in Greece again.

    Ronald.
