It's the last day of the conference and at 2pm we are shutting the Information Service down and packing the laptops away. Before we can do that we have to match the 20 pairs of Kensington locks and keys. The labels we made for them have since fallen off.

Although I was here to support the system I made I haven't needed to. My time has been spent getting people on to the internal IBM network and installing printer drivers. This, of course, is good. It means the system works! Not only works but it's simple to use. Nobody has been over to ask where their mail is or how to address/send a new memo. This is a good sign, considering some of the other technical questions they (the execs) have asked.

I spent some time milling around the room looking over shoulders and watching people using the system. This is a new experience for me. As a developer I usually deliver the goods and that's that. I seldom get to see what I've made actually in use. It's a nice feeling when you do. Especially when you can see them doing what you'd expect. I was watching mouse movement and willing them in one direction or the other, knowing what they were trying to do. For the most part they "got it" first time. This I think is mainly by virtue of it being such a simple design. There's nothing on screen that doesn't need to be.

Tonight we're off to Paris proper for a celebratory meal. Tomorrow I move hotels to central Paris and spend the weekend sight-seeing. Monday and Tuesday I'm working in La Défense. Tuesday night I come home.
