Nice Little Feature in Thunderbird 3

I just noticed a nice feature in Thunderbird 3. If you're writing a message and you happen to mention that you're attaching a file then Thunderbird picks up on this and reminds you to actually attach it! How cool is that.

I for one am always telling people I've attached things when in fact I forget to and they reply to ask where the file is.

Update: It goes one step further and presents a reminder dialog if you click send without having added a file:

The behaviour is controlled via a couple of options:

Nice.

Somebody should add that to the OpenNTF mail experience templates.

  1. Well, that's a delightful touch. Some may stuff like this as superfluous, but adding little "human" touches to a program is always cool.

As far as I can tell, this post isn't about Lotus Domino. How dare you post something non Domino related?

I guess your blog should now be added to a "Thunderbird Features" blog aggregator instead of a Lotus Notes version.

    ;-)

The ultra paranoid might even say it was an underhand dig at Notes.

Gmail has had almost 2 years now. Not sure how long it's been in the official product, but I remember enabling Google Labs and using that feature. It is a nice feature.

  2. Too funny, I just did that this right before reading your article. I sent a Purchase Order Req and didn't attach the req. Then I read this and am thankful that I'm not the only one.

Did you test to see what happens if you to reply to a message that had a keyword from which you removed the original attachment?

      No.

From what I can tell it listens *as* you type, rather than a blanket scan of the whole message, so it will only pick up on your having actually written the keyword down.

  3. That's a feature which has been in Gmail for a while now. It's good to see other mail clients picking up on it.

    IBM.....?

(and Lee, great comment. It brought a smile to my day).
